Passion is a barely controllable emotion.
Passion is the ecstasy that renews social bonds and holds community together. Passion is self-loss and utter chaos.
Passion is the spontaneous solidarity that can arise within a community of equals.
Yet passion is not passive.

Passion is the ecstatic ritual, dancing masses and the thudding of drums. Passion is a state of exhaustion.
Passion is sick.
Passion is trance.
Yet passion is no excuse.

Passion is body alteration.
Passion is open sexual practice.
Passion is pervasive compenetration.
Passion is the indistinction between pleasure and pain.
Yet passion is never emotionally uninvolved.

Passion is suffering that must be endured. Passion that is shared is compassion. Passion cares not for virtue or perfection. Passion gives reason to keep learning.
Yet passion more than reason makes good poetry.

Passion is what can be rather than what is. Passion feels like everything is possible.
Yet what is passion without compassion?

Passion is magic.
And compassion is the spell.
